Many suppliers offer cleaning products for natural stone surfaces. Cleaning products containing vinegar, lemon, or other acids may dull, etch marble, limestone, travertine etc.

Scouring powders or creams contain abrasives that may scratch certain stones.

Many commercially available cleaners contain trace levels of hydroflouric acid (HF). This acid attacks all surfaces including granite. Cleaners containing (HF) should be avoided on natural stone surfaces.

SEALING NATURAL STONE

Sealing is a common step taken on natural stone, after deep cleaning or new installation. Sealing with an impregnating sealer gives extra precaution against staining.

Sealing stone acts as a repellent against staining and ingrained dirt, if the right amount of sealer is applied correctly and by using a good quality impregnating sealer.

Sealing the stone does not make the stone stain proof. It makes it more resistant to staining.
